Many people avoid the Book of Revelation because they believe it is only about disasters, judgment, and the end of the world.
But the very first verse reveals its true purpose:
"The Revelation of Jesus Christ..." (Revelation 1:1)
This is not the revelation of fear.
It is not the revelation of the Antichrist.
It is not the revelation of destruction.
It is the Revelation of Jesus Christ His power, His glory, His authority, and His eternal victory.
Why Was This Revelation Given?
God gave this revelation to Jesus, who then sent it through an angel to His servant John while he was exiled on the island of Patmos for preaching the Gospel.
Even in isolation, God was still speaking.
This teaches us an important lesson:
Your location does not limit God's revelation.
Whether you are in a palace or a prison, God can still reveal His purpose to you.
A Special Blessing
The Book of Revelation contains a unique promise.
"Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein..." (Revelation 1:3)
Notice the three conditions:
Read the Word.
Hear the Word.
Obey the Word.
Knowledge without obedience produces little change. True transformation happens when we live what God teaches us.
Jesus Never Changes
John introduces Jesus as:
The Faithful Witness.
The Firstborn from the dead.
The Ruler over all the kings of the earth.
No matter what is happening around us, Jesus remains King.
Governments change.
Economies rise and fall.
People disappoint us.
But Jesus Christ remains the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Fear Not
When John saw Jesus in His glory, he fell to the ground in awe.
Then Jesus reached out His hand and said:
"Fear not; I am the first and the last." (Revelation 1:17)
Those words still speak to every believer today.
If you are afraid of your future...
Fear not.
If you are struggling financially...
Fear not.
If you feel forgotten...
Fear not.
The One who conquered death is still with you.
Final Reflection
The first chapter of Revelation reminds us that before God reveals future events, He first reveals His Son.
Our greatest hope is not knowing every detail about tomorrow.
Our greatest hope is knowing the One who already holds tomorrow.
When Jesus is at the center of your life, you can face the future with confidence instead of fear.
